Meet Megan Mann from Boonsboro, Maryland. She has been creating jewelry for a year now, and her beautiful jewelry creations can be seen on Instagram @harvest_ember 💚

When Megan was brand repping and stumbled upon other artists, she was inspired. She shared how she was so intrigued by their work and ability to create such unique pieces. Adding, "I have always been an artist of all different mediums, but never jewelry making. I took a shot in the dark and it consumed my soul!"

"Starting out was most certainly a challenge," Megan said. She said she melted a lot of pieces. Also noting that not only is her journey time consuming and hard but it’s expensive. However, at that end of that day when her husband helped her successfully create her very first pendant, Megan said it was all worth it.

Speaking of the very first piece she made, Megan shared she actually kept it as she created it with her husband and she couldn’t let it go! 🥰

Her beautiful brand name Harvest Ember is quite special. Megan explained, "Autumn is my favorite time of year - Harvest-. Watching the flame of a fire burn and all the glowing embers has always been something that calms me. Picking a name I wanted it to be something meaningful, something you can embrace. Harvest Ember, collecting all the warmth and glow of the night, creating magic, and sending it out in the world to share." ✨

ARTIST'S DESIGN STYLE

When asked if Megan still remembers her very first AHA! moment where everything just clicked, she shared that she had a bunch of them, but discovered a new one recently! She said, "Did you know you could use pencil on rope wire to stop the solder flow into the grooves?! I did not! Changed my life. Now all those little details can be put on full display." 🤩

THE DESIGN PROCESS

"I am someone who creates in the moment or off a thought in the middle of the night," Megan started. She has tried to sit down and draw a bunch of pieces out at once and it didn't work for her. Creativity, for her, flows when she's already hands in and working. She goes with how she's feeling and how the stone appeals to her.

Asked to describe her own design style, Megan explained that her jewelry is very intricate. "I love detail, however, trying out a more simple approach as well. I like to think all of my pieces speak to a certain lifestyle. I have a little something for everyone!" 💚

JEWELRY DESIGN TIPS, TRICKS, AND HANDY TECHNIQUES

What's one design tip you one to share with your fellow artists?

"Don’t hold back! Do what you know you are capable of. It may not always sell right away or get the attention it deserves, but fueling your creative soul is what this is all about! Create and design what makes you happy and the right people will come to you."

One piece of technical advice on creating.

"Patience, what works for others may not work for you. We all have our ways of doing things, all right. Find your way and stick to it. While asking for advice and using the internet is useful, you’ll always fall into your own way and line of thinking. Take what you can and mold it into your own."

Any words of encouragement or tips to those who are starting out in the world of jewelry-making?

"Even on the hard days, keep on going. It’s easier to give up than to train. When you look back on all you’ve accomplished and learned you’ll be so proud of yourself."
